The value of the luxury goods market in the UK

The luxury fashion segment is leading the charge, with an estimated £6.06 billion in sales.
Although the mainstream in the UK may be cutting back on spending, high-end consumers are still purchasing exclusive apparel and accessories from leading designer brands.

5 of the top luxury brands in the UK based on brand awareness and value
Whether its sales, brand recognition or the estimated monetary value of the brand, the same names crop up time and again.
These are the fashion houses that routinely appear on the Vogue Business Index, YouGov’s Most Famous Luxury Brands rankings, Statista’s UK brand awareness ranking, and on news and social media sites around the world.
1. Louis Vuitton
French fashion house Louis Vuitton is ranked #1 on the 2025 Vogue Business Index for the sixth consecutive year. It’s brand value surged by 23% year-on-year to £24.07 billion (US$32.2 billion), virtually double that of compatriot fashion emporium Hermès.
At £34.56 billion, global revenue was slightly down from 2023’s record high of £35.48 billion. By all metrics, Louis Vuitton is a brand favourite – globally and here in the UK.
The French maison is expected to cash in on a second collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami through a range of iconic bags adorned with Murakami’s cherry blossom motif.
2. Chanel
Founded by the legendary Coco Chanel more than 100 years ago, Chanel exudes French opulence and flair. Vogue magazine has given the brand a 100% perfect score for consumer sentiment on the 2025 business index.
On the most recent brand value rankings, Chanel has the second-highest Sustainability Perceptions Value after Louis Vuitton. It’s brand value of £20.9 billion secures third place overall.
In the 2023/2024 financial year, Chanel reported record sales of £15.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%.
With a new artistic director, Matthieu Blazy, in the hot seat and UK celebrity Dua Lipa fronting the Chanel 25 handbag, the brand is destined for great things in 2026.
3. Gucci
Despite a significant 24% drop in revenue to €1.6 billion in the first quarter of 2025, Gucci enjoys the top spot on Statista’s brand awareness ranking. That’s a sentiment shared by YouGov.
The online data and analytics platform has the “fame” indicator of the Italian fashion house at 99%. However, the decrease in sales impacted the value of the brand, which dipped from £14.8 billion in 2023 to £11.91 billion.
The downturn isn’t expected to last long. Gucci has recently appointed Demna as creative director, and launched an iconic range of handbags that includes the Gucci Giglio, a canvas bag similar to the one favoured by the late Princess Diana.
4. Dior
Dior had a reasonably good year in 2024. Revenue was up by 1% to €84.7 billion and, based on data by Statista, it matched Chanel in terms of brand awareness.
In terms of brand value, at £11.75 billion Dior was ranked sixth on the luxury and premium brand ranking. Vogue had it at the number 2 spot on the HI 2025 business index. Consumer sentiment, brand awareness, product quality and purchase intent were all ranked higher than the previous year.
The Parisian fashion house has been in the news a lot, largely due to innovation and collaboration.
Dior’s 2025 Cruise Collection, for example, featured Scottish tartans to celebrate the local textile industry. Indian artist Rithika Merchant created the set for the Spring/Summer 2025 Paris show, and Kim Jones, the British-born Dior designer, was presented with the coveted Chevalier de la Legion d’ honneur.
5. Prada
Luxury Italian fashion house Prada is ranked eighth on the Most Famous Luxury Brands ranking. Of the people surveyed by YouGov in the UK, 95% recognised the brand, up slightly from Statista’s 91%.
A dip in consumer purchasing intent has seen the brand drop one ranking spot from sixth to seventh on the Vogue Business Index. However, this did not translate into a loss of sales. In 2024, Prada’s turnover increased by 15% to €5.4 billion.
In April 2024, Prada snapped up Versace for €1.2 billion, uniting two of Italy’s largest and most famous fashion brands.
